iOS Cat Game Data Breach Exposes Personal Info of 450,000 Users

A popular iOS mobile game centered around virtual cats has suffered a significant data breach, compromising the personal information of approximately 450,000 users worldwide.
The game, whose name has not been officially disclosed due to ongoing investigations, reportedly left its backend server exposed without proper authentication, allowing unauthorized access to sensitive user data. Cybersecurity researchers first discovered the flaw in late April and alerted the game developers immediately.
Exposed data includes usernames, email addresses, IP addresses, and hashed passwords. While payment details were not stored on the compromised server, experts warn that the stolen information could still be used for phishing attacks or identity theft.
The developer, a small indie studio, issued a statement confirming the breach and apologizing to its user base:
“We are deeply sorry for the incident and have taken immediate steps to secure our systems. All affected users are being notified, and we strongly recommend changing your passwords, especially if you reuse them on other platforms.”
Apple has not commented on the breach, but the app was briefly removed from the App Store while the developers implemented emergency security patches. As of now, the game is back online with new security measures in place.
Cybersecurity experts urge users to remain cautious and monitor their accounts for any suspicious activity. They also recommend using unique, strong passwords and enabling two-factor authentication where possible.
This breach adds to a growing list of security lapses involving mobile games, raising concerns about data handling practices among smaller developers who often lack robust cybersecurity resources.
