ChatGPT Faces Global Outage, Users Report Widespread Disruptions
June 10, 2025 – OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, experienced a major global outage today, leaving thousands of users unable to access the service. Reports of disruptions began around 2:45 PM IST, with error complaints peaking shortly after 3:00 PM IST.
According to Downdetector, a platform that tracks real-time service disruptions, users across India, the United States, and the United Kingdom were among the worst affected. The majority of complaints—93%—were related to ChatGPT becoming unresponsive, while others faced login loops, blank chat windows, or were abruptly logged out mid-conversation.
OpenAI’s Response
OpenAI acknowledged the issue on its official system status page, stating: “Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are continuing to investigate this issue.” However, the company has yet to provide a timeline for full restoration.
The outage also affected OpenAI’s Sora, an AI-powered video creation tool, and its GPT API services, causing degraded performance across multiple platforms.
Social Media Erupts
As ChatGPT went silent, social media platforms—especially X (formerly Twitter)—lit up with reactions ranging from frustration to humor. Users shared memes mocking the situation, with one joking, “ChatGPT is down? Guess I’ll start talking to real people again.” Another quipped, “Am I supposed to use my brain now at work?”
The Growing Dependence on AI
The outage highlights how deeply integrated AI tools like ChatGPT have become in daily routines—from writing emails to coding and even planning meals. Many users rely on the chatbot for professional and academic tasks, making disruptions like this a significant inconvenience.
As OpenAI works to resolve the issue, users worldwide are left waiting, hoping their digital assistant will be back online soon.
